The close of 2019 was bittersweet. John and his wife, María José, had their final service with us at Love Baptist Church. Ever since we arrived in Chile, almost three years ago, John and María José have been great friends to Anna and me. They taught us more of the language and culture of Chile than anyone else. Before God allowed us to plant Love Baptist, we trained with the Holt family at Liberty Baptist across town. Jason and Lori Holt invested a lot in us and continue to be our faithful co-laborers in Santiago. For nearly a decade and a half, Jason has been training young men like John, to go out and plant other churches as well as help assist other churches in any way possible. That is what John and his wife have done. They worked alongside us to help get Love Baptist off the ground and are now setting out to plant another Bible-believing church here in Santiago that John will be pastoring. We are very excited for them and our ever-growing team of churches here in Chile. John is planting Cross Baptist Church that should be one of at least three or four churches that will be planted among our team in 2020. We continue to see God work among us. Families are being trained for the ministry in our young church plants. Then sent out of these churches as church planters to other parts of Chile and the world.
On the first Sunday of 2020, we had a special vision service. Our annual theme is “Edificaré” which means “I will build”. During January, I preached about building our New Year’s goals. I shared my spiritual goals with the church. I challenged them to make their own goals for 2020 and believing that God will help them accomplish them if they are according to His will and purpose. I taught that God does not make goals because they are temporary. God is eternal. His purpose, will, and mission are also eternal. He wants to save anybody and everybody, and He wants to use His children to fulfill His mission. His heart should be our heart. His mission should be our mission. We should decide to be a part of it and never turn back.
Upcoming Second Church Plant Update
We continue searching for a rental property for our second church plant here in Santiago. The search has been much more tedious than searching for a property to purchase because there are far fewer properties for rent than there are properties for sale. Please be praying for God to lead us to the right place, rent it, and begin holding services and outreach.
